Types of Cat Beds

Sometimes it is tough to tell whether cats are fussy, or whether cat owners are fussy for their cats. Still, no matter which is the case, chances are you would like to get your pet a cat bed that it can sleep in comfortably when it is not able to be on your lap.

Cat beds come in all shapes and sizes. Like other types of pet beds, cat beds can really be anything that is soft enough for maximum comfort. Dog beds, for example, often work well as cat beds, and as you likely know from experience, a couch tends to act as a cat bed as well.

But there are other types of cat beds available besides those that are simply dog beds renamed. Here are a few types of cat beds that are almost always made exclusively for cats.

Cat Beds for Cats

·        Combination Cat Bed and Scratching Post

Cats like to sleep high up. Cats like to scratch. Many manufacturers of pet furniture have combined these two features and created a combination cat bed scratching post that allows cats to sleep high up (on the top of the scratching post) in a custom made bed, then walk down the post and scratch away at their leisure. This type of bed is fairly practical, and can be found at a variety of pet stores.

·        Cat Bed Sack

A most interesting type of cat bed is designed to be a “cat sack.” These beds are shaped like sacks, except made with very warm wool or soft material. Cats crawl into these sacks and sleep completely enclosed as though in a very tiny cave, but the opening is large enough that the cats do not feel even the slightest bit trapped. There are also variations of this type of bed that look as though they are cat bed pockets, and sometimes you will find standard cushion beds that appear extra hollowed out to provide that same sense of warmth.

·        Kitty Tents/Cabins

Unlike dogs, cats only need a small amount of space in order to crawl in and out of their beds. And since cats also like enclosed spaces, there are a variety of cat beds that are shaped like little tents and cabins. The openings are very similar to birdfeeders, in that there is just enough room for the cat to go in and out, but inside of the cat tent is a cozy, warm area made of very soft and comfortable materials.

Cat Beds for Your Cat

These are by no means the only options. There are far more basic cat beds that resemble dog beds (except they are often smaller), and there are also specialty cat beds – some with warmers and coolers depending on the weather. But the beds above are examples of types of beds that appear designed exclusively for cats, and chances are that if you buy one for your cat, it will enjoy sleeping within the bed every night.
