Petmate Burrow Bed Review
In many ways, the designs of most pet beds are
somewhat incorrect. Though dogs and cats both like to sleep on almost
anything that is soft, they also have various instincts that, while they
rarely show themselves, are not met by the designs of most beds. Animals are
not genetically used to sleeping out in the open where they are vulnerable,
and though most animals still do because they feel safe in your home, that
does not mean that that is what their instinct is telling them to do.
On the contrary, many of these animals have
borrowing instincts that help them feel more comfortable when they sleep
protected by some type of structure. Though this is not true of all cats or
dogs, many still maintain the instinct and even those that don’t can enjoy
the feelings of protection that come from burrowing. If your animal seems
like one of them, you may want to get a Petmate Burrow Bed.

Pros
Dogs, cats and ferrets that burrow can all benefit
from a bed like the Petmate Burrow Bed. It is designed for animals with
nesting instincts, and meets those needs nicely with a hood that does not
cover the animal completely, but can provide additional warmth and comfort
for the pet’s back fairly easily, simply because the pet will burrow its way
in there until it feels most comfortable. The Petmate Burrow Bed is also
quite soft, and will definitely reach an approved comfort level by your pet.
Cons
Not all dogs nest, so the Petmate Burrow Bed loses
a little bit of its novelty right off the bat if your dog isn’t into the
burrowing thing. These beds are also fairly fragile, so they are not great
for chewers or the rough nails of some cats. In addition, though it “is”
machine washable, it is also quite large, and therefore tough to wash in
most washing machines.
Overall Impressions
The Petmate Burrow Bed is nice. Beyond that it is
more a matter of how well you expect your dog to use it and whether or not
you think the flap that covers the bed is necessary. Dogs that chew or cats
that scratch may not like it very much, and some dogs do not like to have
things lying on top of them. Also, these beds are for light dogs. Heavy dogs
will most assuredly not find any use for this bed. But at a price of only 30
some odd dollars, these Petmate Burrow Bed are certainly not a pricy risk
compared to other pet beds, and have enough style that they are a nice
addition to your home. See if you can figure out if your pet will use the
burrowing aspect of the bed, and if so, consider making this purchase.
