Pet Bed Accessories

Providing your dog with a bed to call its own can be very beneficial. Your dog CAN sleep on the uncomfortable floor, but your dog will be way more pleased (and well rested) if it has a soft and comfortable bed to sleep on whenever it feels the need to lie down. As much as your chair or couch fits their needs, it would be better if your pet had something to call its own – especially when it is not welcome on your furniture.

But once you have purchased a pet bed, there are a variety of accessories that you may want to add in order to improve your dog’s comfort or help improve your household. Here are some examples of pet bed accessories that you may want to add to your pet bed purchase.

Pet Bed Accessories

1.      Fresh Bed Insert/Carbon Scent Stopper

As much as we love them, dogs are not the best smelling animals. They have a tendency to drag in some fairly awful odors, and the scents from inside of their mouth get easily transferred to all of the items that they decide to lick. That is why it may not be a bad idea to get one of these scent removal pieces, such as a carbon scent stopper with soaks in odor to reduce the nasty smells that can arise from your dog’s bed. These only work for those beds that have a cover that can be removed, but they are still quite useful.

2.      Waterproof Liner

Another option is to add a waterproof liner to your dog’s bed. These waterproof liners make sure that your wet dog brings less odor in them, and allows the beds to be much easier to clean (a fabric spray will often be all that is needed). Essentially it allows you to make sure that the bed itself does not grow bacteria, get dirty, or start to mold, and the outside is all that needs to be removed in order to clean the piece. You can also find waterproof liners that are orthopedic, if need be.

3.      Fitted Sheets

Finally, sometimes all you want to do is add a little bit of color to your pet bed, or help make it look better (or get less dirty) after massive amounts of use. There are a variety of dog beds that come with their own fitted covers, putting you in control of color to match your household, and ensuring that if the bed gets too dirty you can simply pull off the sheet, wash it, and replace it without subjecting others to the train wreck of the original bed.

Overall, dog bed accessories are not very flashy, but just because they do not provide you with some type of nifty technology does not mean they are not useful. Just as you add sheets, comfort, liners etc. to your own bed, so too can you add them to your dog bed and reduce the damage of the environment and the affect the bed has on your home.
