Memory Foam Dog Beds

If you have ever turned on a television in the last five years, you have no doubt seen commercials for memory foam mattresses. These mattresses are designed to conform to your body when you sleep. Springs push back up at you wherever the spring is located, and various forms of pillow foam do not have as much give (or too much give), thus failing to keep your body straight.

Memory foam mattresses were designed to make it more comfortable to lie down on any part of the mattress, and so it is with that in mind that they also created memory foam dog beds.

What are Memory Foam Dog Beds?

Memory foam dog beds are simple “mattresses” for dogs, made exclusively of memory foam. Dogs of all shapes and sizes (provided you find a mattress that fits their size) can lay down on these beds and have the mattress conform to their bodies.

There are several benefits to memory foam dog beds, including:

·        A reduction in joint pressure, which is great for both older and aging dogs.

·        A reduction in bone stress, also useful for aging dogs.

·        An improved blood circulation as your dog sleeps.

·        Durable material that is unlikely to cause significant discomfort.

·        Keeps a dog’s spine straight – great for any dogs with elongated spines.

·        A material that does not get either too hot or too cold in extreme weather.

·        Machine washable material that is easy to clean when it gets too dirty.

These memory foam dog beds are very effective for ensuring your dog is both healthy and sleeping well. They are great for keeping your dog’s bones and joints comfortable, and when a dog has had a long day outside, they are able to help reduce the amount of muscle discomfort that the dog experiences.

What are the Downsides of Memory Foam Dog Beds?

There are not many downsides to getting a dog bed made of memory foam. There are problems if your dog is chewing a lot – though the material is durable in the general sense, it does not handle chewing very well and it isn’t that healthy for your dog to consume it (as many be the case if your dog is chewing on it).

Also, these dog beds tend to not be very stylish, and are rarely as gaudy as many of the other, more plush dog beds. Since part of choosing a dog bed is for yourself as much as it is for the dog, that can be somewhat of a downside. They may also be quite expensive, depending on where you purchase them.

But when it comes to their health benefits, and how comfortable they are for your dog, these memory foam mattresses do quite well against any of the other types of dog beds available. They are definitely something you should consider, especially if your dog has or is prone to various joint, hip and bone problems.
