Dog Blankets
As you look to shop for dog beds, you may find that
many companies offer “Dog Blankets” in the dog bed section. At first glance,
you may think that these blankets are meant to go on top of dogs as they
sleep, but upon further review you will realize that dogs are not exactly
fond of being covered by much of anything, let alone a blanket while they
are sleeping.
That is because dog blankets are actually designed
to be makeshift dog beds – made with materials that are safe and durable,
and designed to be used as sleeping areas for dogs.
How Are Blankets Beds?
The theory with dog blankets is that, when crumpled
up together, dog blankets become a quick and easy bed for a dog. Dogs are
not people – they do not mind sleeping on the floor, or sleeping in
something that was not designed for sleeping. All dogs care about is that
they are comfortable, and laying on a bed made entirely of blanket is fairly
comfortable.
That is why, though it may feel strange, these dog
blankets are actually very effective as beds for dogs. They are very soft
(especially when crumpled up), and dogs have absolutely no problems sleeping
on them with some regularity.
Okay, But Then Why Not Just Buy a Dog Bed?
The theory with dog blankets is that you can also
use them for more than just dog beds. You can also use them as couch
protectors for your pet, so that your dog isn’t able to get its fur and dirt
on your clothing. You also have the ability to fold it up and move it
anywhere that there is room fairly easily and, depending on the size of your
dog, you can also fold it in half or lay it out more depending on how much
room you need.
Dog blankets are easily washable, almost always
made with hypoallergenic materials, and are most often durable enough to
withstand a great deal of biting as well, which is what makes them a better
option than a human’s blanket. You can also buy sizes that are better for
your dog’s breed.
Dog Blanket Benefits
·
Easy Clean Up
Blankets are far easier to clean than dog beds are.
Even though you can remove the top layer of many of these beds and wash it
separately, a single mistake by your puppy and chances are you will have a
foul smelling dog bed for a long period of time.
·
Easy Shaping
Your dog may sleep in different ways. You can
fairly easily shape a dog blanket to be the dog bed you need, varying the
size depending on ideal method of sleeping for your canine companion.
·
Easy Moving
Dog blankets are not at all heavy, and can fit
pretty much anywhere. Dog beds, on the other hand, have a tendency to be
weighty (especially the soft ones), which can make moving them difficult –
especially in and out of corners.
·
Protects Your Couch
Perhaps one of the best benefits of the dog blanket
is that you can use it to protect your couch or chair from hair, dirt, and
general dog smell problems. These blankets can easily sit on any side of the
couch depending on where you sit, and your dog can jump up without messing
up your furniture. They can also act as a sign to dogs that it is okay to be
on the couch – as long as the dog blanket is there.
Overall Thoughts
The idea of using a blanket as a bed is a little
bit silly. Unless you are stuck with very little space, chances are you can
fit a dog bed somewhere inside of your home or apartment, and that makes it
a little odd that you would use a blanket in place of a bed.
But these dog blankets have other purposes. They
are easier to move around, they can be shaped and sized, they can be used as
mats to guard your couches and chairs – these additional benefits make dog
blankets not a bad option if you are trying to create a better sleeping area
for your pet, so if you find one that you like, you should certainly
consider it. Your dog will no doubt find it just as comfortable as any bed.
