Benefits of Cat Beds

It is not uncommon to buy a dog bed for your pet dog. Dogs sleep all over the house, spreading themselves out or curling themselves in, shedding hair all over your carpet and furniture and bringing in dog smell that permeates throughout the house. It is no wonder that so many people choose to get a dog bed – beyond simply finding a comfortable place for your pet to sleep, dog beds also keep the dog off your furniture and off your carpet.

But with cat beds it is not that simple. Cats are not that smelly, they do not shed much, and they can sleep in a tiny ball almost anywhere without taking up much space. They don’t particularly need a bed, and though you may want to get one in an “I like to spoil my cat” type of way, they certainly do not seem like an animal that needs one. So what are the benefits of cat beds for cats – if any?

Cat Bed Benefits

Beyond simply spoiling your cat, there are some benefits to having a cat bed available for your favorite feline. Below are some of the benefits of getting a cat bed.

1.      Safety

Cats that don’t have a place to sleep put themselves at risk for sleeping in a spot that is dangerous. For example, cats sometimes like to sleep beneath the footrest of a reclining chair. Should the chair close down on them, the cats may not be able to move in time, possibly causing injury. There are countless ways that cats can put themselves in danger if they sleep anywhere they want in the house, and as their owners it is very helpful if you can reduce these risks by giving them a single place to sleep at night.

2.      Warmth

Cats get cold, but most cat beds are designed to keep them warmer, with the help of various materials designed to cover the cat or simply stay warm even in cool weather. Cats can greatly benefit from these warmth, and are known to appreciate it.

3.      Security

Cats prefer to be in high, soft places in order to feel safe. When you provide a cat bed, you can give them that warm, safe, high location that will not only make them happy, but also improve how secure they feel when they are inside of your house. That security will undoubtedly reduce stress on your cat and help improve the way it feels inside of your home.

Overall Thoughts on a Cat Bed

Also, the same benefits you get from a dog bed are true for a cat bed as well. Benefits like moving your cat to an area out of your way or reducing cat hair that, although minor, would normally get on your clothes. Cat beds have very few downsides and have both the benefits that you get from any pet bed, as well as the specific benefits to cats as evidenced by the list above.
