What dog bed is best for a pet that chews furniture?

Chewing dogs can be a big problem for dog furniture. Some dogs like to chew, and when dogs like to chew they can rip apart some of the best dog beds that you have gotten for them. Even dog beds that are meant to withstand chewing can often times still be destroyed by an aggressive chewer with a lot of time on their hands.

Dogs that chew hard on their beds require a bed that can withstand this type of abuse, and not all beds can handle it. You may need to go with certain types of beds that are designed specifically to withstand chewing.

Brands and Beds for Chewing Dogs

·        Kuranda Beds

Kuranda dog beds are made specifically for chewing dogs. Unlike most of the pillow like beds that are found within the dog bed industry, Kuranda beds are designed far more like hammocks, and are made with a nylon material that is great for reducing the effects of a chewing dog. Kuranda is one of the strongest dog beds available, and though it is not the most exciting dog bed, nor the most comfortable, for chewing dogs it should be able to withstand the abuse.

It should be noted, however, that Kuranda is slowly working its way into the standard dog bed industry, and they are working specifically on trying to create extremely durable beds that are more comfortable and less “Hammocky.” Look for them in the near future to have some of the most durable comfortable dog beds available.

·        DoggySnooze Dog Bed

Like Kuranda, DoggySnooze dog beds are also designed specifically to be chew resistant. Except these beds have a far nicer design to them, looking more like a lounge chair than a dog bed. They are also slightly softer than Kuranda, though still not as soft as some of the plush dog beds that are also available. These can be somewhat pricy, however, and are not at all meant for the outdoors.

·        Durabed

The Durabed is a type of spinoff Karunda bed. It is hammock like and made with nylon, but it can be slightly less expensive and made with slightly more metal, making it just a little bit better for the outdoors.

Additional Thoughts on Durable Beds

The truth about dog beds, however, is that the harder and thicker the outside material, the more durable it will be. The above brands are examples of specific beds designed to withstand aggressive chewers, but you may not quite need a bed designed that way. The Crypton Super Fabrics Doodle Dog Pet Bed, for example, is a pet bed with a thick and strong enough outer layer that it will withstand a great deal of chewing, and it is designed like a true mattress – so it will be far more comfortable for your pet. And don’t forget that the best thing you can do for your dog’s furniture is to simply train it out of chewing.
