Alternatives to Dog Beds
Dog beds are a great place for your pet to rest.
They are able to have their own single, comfortable location that allows
them to feel some safety and security while avoiding the harsh and dirt
filled ground as they rest. These beds are made for dogs of all sizes and
work very well as a way to make sure that your dog is comfortable every
night.
But dog beds are not for everyone. Some people do
not have the space for this type of pet furniture, or they simply do not
want to add a dog bed to the list of expenses that they already spend on
their dogs. For those that simply do not want dog beds, there are some
alternatives that may work for you.
Additional Comfortable Dog Sleeping Options
·
Couch Mat
If your dog is like most dogs, it will likely want
to sleep or rest on the couch or soft chair any time it has an opportunity.
In general you do not want your dog on your furniture – they track hair and
dirt, can leave a small, and often take up room that you would like to be
using for your own legs.
That is why some pet manufacturers have developed
protective couch mats – so that your dog can easily lay down on the couch on
its own mat whenever you would allow you dog on your couch, and on the floor
when you want your dog off the couch. It will keep hair and smell off of
your furniture and become a symbol for your dog about when it is allowed on
your resting areas.
·
Doggy Blanket
Never underestimate the dog blanket as a
comfortable resting area. Blankets are just as soft as some beds,
they can be crumpled together or laid out flat depending on how much
room you need and how much comfort you want to give your dog, and they can
be moved pretty much anywhere you want. They make blankets that are
specifically designed to be used for dogs, and this option allows you to
“make” a bed for your dog at your leisure.
·
Towels
Though it may not be as comfortable as a blanket,
mat or bed, you can always used towels if you need to find a comfortable
area for your pet in the house. Old towels can also be used inside of a dog
crate if you need a way to let your dog sleep comfortably and do not have a
good dog bed on hand. You can also use these towels on a chair or couch for
easy cleaning.
Using These Alternatives
The truth about dog beds is that they are a
preferred option, but certainly not the only option. Dog beds will always be
more comfortable, better designed, softer, etc., but if you are against dog
beds or prefer another option, you do have the opportunity to use a
furniture mat, a pet blanket or old towels instead.
